Meeting Times: Every other Tuesday – 3:15 pm – Room C-234

LLT is a Latina Leadership Club at Wakefield. The club meets every other Tuesday and aims to build on the student’s strengths. It provides mentoring, support and leadership opportunities for students that are for the most part the first member in their family to be college bound. The members in the club are expected to be role models in their community and to actively participate in the club’s activities.

The participants are challenged to identify their strengths and develop their sense of identity by learning from their Latino Culture and traditions. Adult Latina professionals reaffirm this by coming in once a month to speak to the students about their respective careers and personal challenges faced in the workforce. These women become the club’s “Madrinas” and remain a resource for the girls. By having this opportunity students begin to realize they all connected within the Latino community. They gain basic principles of cultural pride and identity. It teaches them that they must first know where they come from in order to get to where they are going and that their culture can be a strong tool towards success.

Mission: The Mission of Latinas Leading Tomorrow is to provide a balanced environment of intellectual, social, and cultural experiences designed to meet the needs of budding Latina Leaders at the middle school and high school level.

Vision: The Latinas Leading Tomorrow Club is an all female organization which provides an environment enriched with leadership skills, cultural affirmation, solidarity and support. It promotes academic excellence, personal responsibility, trust among its members, and Latina empowerment.
