Online Example: YouTube
Purpose
To identify a sequence of events or a process and understand the relationship among events/ steps in process.
Procedure
- Identify a series of events or steps in a process and write the events/steps on 4×6 index cards.
- On the back of each card, the student (1) defines the event/step, and (2) writes how that event/step was linked to previous events/steps and/or influenced later events/steps.
- In groups, the teacher gives the students a pack of cards in random order.
- Students must (1) put the events in chronological order, and (2) orally review the sequence of events/ process, explaining how each event/step was influenced by an earlier event, caused a later event, or was related in some way to another event on the timeline.
- Students can check themselves by looking on the back of the card for the definition and the relation of this event to other events.
Modifications and extensions:
- Teachers can have groups create cards for various events and do class review for comprehensive assessment or SOL.
- Can be given as homework for review or individual accountability.
