Senior Year 2019-2020: What You Need to Know

Senior Class Dues (please pay by Winter Break):

  • UPDATE: Due to a discrepancy in dates, Senior Dues of $80 will be accepted until 10/31 in room A139
  • $80 if paid by September 30, 2019;  $120 beginning October 1, 2019.
  • Cash or check (payable to Wakefield High School) and turned in to Dr. Sanders in room A-139.
  • Dues cover the cost of cap and gown, Senior Class Picnic, and other senior class activities.

Off-Campus Privilege You will be allowed to go off-campus for lunch only after you have returned the parental permission slip. The slip will be distributed the second week of school. Return to Dr. Sanders in room A-138.

Senior Project: Your senior project advisor will work with you to establish your timelines leading up to your presentation. If you do not meet your deadlines, you will have to attend Summer Institute. Ms. Labella is available to offer help and suggestions. She is located in room A-137 or call 703-228-6666.

College, Scholarship, and Career Information: Mr. Clisham, college and career counselor has information on colleges, scholarships, internships, etc. Stop by C-128 or call 703-228-6711 early and often.

Graduation Announcements and Class Rings: Contact Jostens at 877-515-1447 or visit their website at . There is no obligation to buy either announcements or a class ring.

Cap & Gown: You must have a cap and gown in order to participate in the graduation ceremony. The cap and gown cost is included in your Senior Class dues. Caps and gowns will be distributed after graduation rehearsal.

Graduation: Graduation is on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 8pm at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, DC. Graduates will report to Wakefield at 6:00 PM for lining up and then taking the bus to Constitution Hall. Your family and friends will need to go directly to Constitution Hall. Doors open at 7:00 PM, and it is open seating.

  • Graduation Tickets: All graduates will be given tickets for the graduation ceremony. Tickets will be distributed after graduation rehearsal on June 18, 2020.
  • Graduation Rehearsal Graduation rehearsal will take place at 9:00 AM in the large gym on Thursday, June 18, 2020. Everyone wishing to participate in the graduation ceremony must attend the rehearsal. The rehearsal will last approximately 1 hour. Caps, gowns and tickets will be distributed after the rehearsal.

Senior Picnic: June 3rd from 12:30 until 3:00. The Senior Class will provide food and drinks. There will be music and games (see a senior class officer if you have ideas and/or equipment).
Fees for Lost or Damaged Items, etc… You must return all school materials in good condition (this includes textbooks, library books, calculators, team uniforms, etc..). You will be charged for any item not returned or retuned in poor condition. These charges, and any other school-related charges (for example, transcript fees) must be paid for prior to receiving your cap and gown. We will pull your cap and gown and hold them until all fees and charges have been paid.

Prom:  iFriday, June 5th, 2020 from 8:00 PM to 12:00AM at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel. For planning purposes, the ticket price will be approximately $50-75 per ticket. Tickets generally go on sale in May. Prom Promise will be on June 3rd from 11:15am – 12:30pm in the auditorium.

Senior Portraits: Victor O’Neil Studios will be at Wakefield on August 23rd in the auditorium to take Senior Pictures. The studio will be mailing students a customized appointment time for August 23rd. If the time you receive does not work or you do not receive an appointment card by August 15th, please contact the studio directly as well to be scheduled for the August 23rd date. Please note that the last make-up date for Senior Pictures is October 17-18 in A-134. While there is no obligation to buy these pictures, your Senior Picture is the one included in the yearbook so we ask all senior to sit for their portrait. Panoramic Picture:  The senior panoramic picture will be taken in the stadium on October 3, 2019. You will receive order forms in advance and/or at the time of the picture. The picture will cost between $18 and $25. You must pay for the picture on picture day. There is no obligation to buy this picture.
