Congrats to the Girls Lightweight 4 Boat who finished 1st at States after an undefeated regular season and finished 3rd at Nationals. The team consisted of Parker Michos, Anotnia Kotliarov, Astrid Henkle, Grace Peterson, and Lee Frederick. These ladies have been consistent all season and reaped the benefits at their culminating race at Nationals last weekend. Their best time was achieved at Nationals – 5:37.1 – GREAT JOB LADIES! Kudos and great job to the Girl’s JV Double who took second at States. That boat seated Rebekah Nance and Liz Kelly! Congrats to the Boys Varsity 4 Boat who finished fourth at Nationals! This boat seated Lynne Farris, Nick Belvin, Ben Wierzbanowski, Richard Capitan and Rory Cameron. What is remarkable about their finish is that this was only the second time this season this group rowed together in a 4. All season, they rowed in a varsity 8-boat until Stotesbury and Nationals. So, over a period of 8 days, and 4 heats, they had to learn to do their sprint starts, which they hadn’t done as four plus their coxswain in a formal racing situation before, plus adapt their pacing during the racing. They were going up against the best boats in these finals from elite private schools, and with seven days and just three preliminary sprint heats to get starting right, they were able to get fourth in the finals at Nationals! On top of that, they were using a brand-new boat they never raced in before. The Wakefield Varsity 4 wasn’t lucky they finished fourth, the other boats were lucky that they didn’t take first, second, or third! Way to Go Warriors!
