Boys Soccer Plays in States

Boys Soccer Team

Soccer Update:

Region 5C Championship Game on Friday, June 1 at Rock Ridge High School – Wakefield vs. Briar Woods – Game time is 7:30 pm. Tickets are $8.00

When was the last time a 7th place team knocked off the 2nd seeded team in district playoffs to advance to Region 5C tournament, get to the tournament to knock off John Champe and then beat Falls Church who was our district champion, almost shutting them out from scoring if not for a PK called where they got their only goal?

The Warriors came out on fire and played very well. The chemistry and team play was obvious last night and they took an early lead with a great cross from Ricardo to Oscar Salas-Lopez who scored. The second goal was scored by Abenezar Shewago on a shot from 25 yards away after a beautiful combination play with Irving Rivera. The defense played very solid giving Falls Church no chances at goal. The third goal was scored by Freshman Wesley Esparza after a rebound bounced his way. The Warriors then continued to dominate through the second half and the fourth goal came from a curled shot taken by Marlon Reyes from about 20 yards away curving pass the Falls Church goalie’s outstretched arms. Falls Church scored their only goal from a penalty kick given with 7 mins left which ruined the clean sheet for Freshman goalkeeper Alex Temoshok. The Warriors win helps them advance to the 5C Regional Championship where they will face Briar Woods on Friday. The win also qualifies the Warriors for States for the first time in school history. In 1996, boys’ soccer lost to Herndon in the Regional Final Four at Stuart, 4 to 1. This win last night was EPIC in so many ways!
