Madrigal Singers

The Madrigal Singers ensemble provides an accelerated chamber music experience for highly proficient and developed vocalists. Literature studied is of an advanced level and spans various eras and genres. Extensive training in vocal production, music theory, and sight-reading is included in rehearsals. Attendance at numerous school, community, and traveling performance engagements is required. This is a full-year, one-credit class, Grades 9-12. Prerequisite: Previous choral experience and audition by choral director.

Advanced Choir

The choir rehearses and performs choral literature representative of a variety of styles, including sacred and popular music of moderate to advanced difficulty. Advanced training in sight-reading, vocal production and technique, and basic music theory is provided. There are school performances and performances at community functions, as well as district festivals and other adjudicated performances. Attendance at performances is required. Prerequisite: Previous choral experience in school or community choir is preferred, but not required. Audition and/or approval of the director is required. This is a full-year, one-credit class, Grades 9-12

High School Chorus

This course is designed to develop musicianship and healthy vocal production, and to provide experiences in ensemble singing and sight-reading. A wide range of music is offered, including popular, sacred, and secular, from various styles and periods. Students are required to attend all performances. Prerequisite: None. This is a full year, one credit class, Grades 9-12.

Men’s Choir

The Men’s Choir is an ensemble of men grades 9 – 12.
The curriculum is designed to help young singers understand and develop the changing male voice, ear-training, sight singing skills and competency in reading three- and four-part voicing.  Phonetics of various languages and a variety of musical styles are presented. Class work includes singing exercise to build, strengthen and carefully guide the voice through its development, and improve diction, breath support and resonance. Music Theory and Music History are also included in daily instruction. Sight-singing technique will be included on a daily basis. Additional work includes singing in small ensembles, written tests, singing tests and required evening performances. Next year’s Men’s Choir will travel to compete in Orlando, Florida with the entire choral program.
