9th Grade and New Student Orientation

Our 9th Grade & New Student Orientation is designed to help incoming freshmen, and new students feel confident, informed, and connected before the first day of school.

Orientation Dates

• July 28: 2:00–8:00 p.m.
• Tuesday, August 17, 2026 *| 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM <= New date!

*Due to the upcoming election on Tuesday, August 4, the Freshman & New Student Orientation was rescheduled for August 17.

Throughout each orientation, students will rotate through four stations:

• School ID Station – Students will have their school picture taken and receive their student ID.
• Laptop Distribution – Students will receive their APS-issued laptop and technology information.**
• Guided School Tour – Staff and student leaders will lead small groups through the building, highlighting important locations and answering questions.
• Orientation Presentation & Student Panel – Students and families will receive important information about Wakefield while hearing directly from current students about their experiences.

Although the orientation spans much of the day, we do not expect staff or family volunteers to stay for the entire time period.

** Laptop Notice: Students who registered after May 3, 2026, will not receive laptops during orientation. Distribution will take place on:

August 10 – Last Names A–G

August 13 – Last Names H–O

August 17 – Last Names P–Z & makeups
