GENERAL SPORTS REGISTRATION AND TRYOUT INFORMATION

Hello Wakefield Warriors and Family!

Registration for 2026-2027 student athletes has begun. Tryouts for fall sports will be July 27 for golf, or the week of August 3 for all other fall sports. Specific tryout information is below, or available on the Wakefield Athletic Website

Registration

If you plan on participating in sports, you will need to complete your registration online before coming out for Fall Sports. https://students.arbitersports.com/organizations/wakefield-high-school  To get the best real time information utilize the Wakefield Athletic Site or the Wakefield HS Website. https://wakefield.apsva.us/athletics/.

You must complete the following 3 things and be cleared BEFORE try-outs/off-season green days:

  1.   Register and complete an online account. If you are a returning athlete – you must register using the same  arbiter account that was created last year, using the same credentials (same parent email address, same student).

https://students.arbitersports.com/programs/athletic-registration

  • If you registered for fall sports but would like to add a sport, you can do a separate registration using the same family account, or your parent can email Mrs. Kigin ([email protected]) to request a change to your previous 2026 registration.
  1. Upload your doctor stamped, signed and dated physical to the account. (Physicals are valid for 14 months after date on Page 3). Make sure you have the Medical Eligibility Form (page 3) completed and uploaded!

ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION/PARENTAL CONSENT/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION FORM

A completed signed form is required to be submitted to the school prior to any kind of participation, including tryouts or practice, as a member of any school athletic, cheer or marching band teams, as well as some school-based athletic clubs. The form from the doctor must indicate the student was found to be physically fit for athletic competition no more than 14 calendar months prior to the date on which the previous year’s Athletic Participation/Parent Consent/Evaluation Form report was signed. The report must be completely filled in and properly signed by an approved medical practitioner, attesting that the athlete has been examined and found to be physically fit for athletic competition no more than 14 calendar months prior to the date on which report was signed. Parents must consent to athletic participation.

  1. Enter your medical insurance information into your account. If you do not already have insurance, APS recommends the following:

VHSL requires that all athletes must have health insurance. For those students not already covered, APS Risk Management has been working with HSR K12 Student Insurance to help families find options for student insurance. There are options for families to purchase a wide range of policies for their students, including 24-hour coverage or while at school and on student sponsored activities.

Policy options can be used as supplemental or primary coverage options for APS students. Please see the Risk Management Staff Central Page with the most recently updated documents for Student Voluntary Insurance Coverage options for families.

Insurance Management Student Accident Supplemental Insurance

APS does not provide accident insurance to cover the medical cost associated with injuries your student(s) may sustain during the school day or while participating in school sponsored activities. Families are encouraged to purchase their own coverages as either primary or supplementary coverages. APS has partnered with the Young Group to provide this option for families.

For more information or to enroll in the plan offered by the Young Group, Inc. call 1-888-574-6288 or 1-919-9798 or visit https://www.k12studentinsurance.com.

If students do not have medical insurance coverage in the event of an illness or injury, coverage is available to families through the Family Access to Medical Insurance Security (FAMIS) program. FAMIS is available to families who meet certain income and other eligibility requirements. The program is sponsored by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Information about FAMIS and enrollment forms are available online at https://coverva.dmas.virginia.gov/ or by calling 1-855-242-8282.

Link to Student Insurance Documents. As a reminder, APS does not provide injury or accident insurance for students. This option for coverage is provided directly through K12 Student Insurance, not VACORP the provider for APS property or staff. APS has negotiated the rates but is not the holder of these policies and families who choose to utilize this resource are doing so directly with this provider.
